Persian classical dance has a rich history that developed on the territory of Persia, going through stages of prosperity and decline. Despite facing a religious ban inside Iran, the dance tradition has never been interrupted and continues to evolve outside of the country. Meanwhile, Muwashahat, which arose during the Arab conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, existed until the expulsion of the Arabs from Iberia at the beginning of the 16th century. In the 20th century, the dance was reconstructed by the great Egyptian choreographer Mahmoud Reda, based on frescoes, paintings, literature, and music.
